Here’s the Truth About Hiring a Roofer in Austin Texas, and How Holden Roofing Changes It

More than 3,000 roofers list Austin as a service area. Most of them were not here for the last big hailstorm, and many will not be here for the next one.

They show up the week after the storm with a yard sign, a contingency agreement and out-of-state plates. Two summers later the shingles start lifting, and the number on the contract rings to nowhere.

So how do you pick the right one when every truck on your street says “roofing”?

You ask better questions. Below are the three problems Austin homeowners run into most, the exact question that exposes each one, and how Holden Roofing answers it. Then the questions homeowners ask us on the very first call, answered straight.

Problem One: The Roofer Who Inspects Your Roof From the Driveway

A hail bruise on an architectural shingle is the size of a fingertip. You cannot see it from the ground, and neither can the guy in the truck.

Plenty of Austin roofers quote a replacement from the curb and let the adjuster sort it out. When the adjuster finds less than the roofer promised, you are the one holding the bill.

The Question to Ask

“Will You Get on My Roof and Hand Me the Photos?”

If the answer is “we’ll take a look” without a ladder, a camera and an attic check, you have your answer. A real inspection takes 45 minutes to an hour, not five.

How Holden Roofing Answers It

Yes, every slope, every time, and the photos are yours before we leave the driveway. A Holden Roofing project manager walks the roof, chalks test squares, shoots the soft metals and checks the attic.

And if the roof is fine, you hear three words you will not hear from a storm chaser: your roof’s fine.

★★★★★

“In a panic, trying to find a last minute roofer to come out and review an inspection suggestion, I called 3 other roofers, which sent me to voicemail and never called back. Holden was the ONLY roofer I got a hold of… They gave us a thumbs up on the roof, no major concerns… Even though their review netted no work for them, if we have any issues in the future, you can bet I’m calling them first.”

Problem Two: The Roofer Who Vanishes the Day Your Claim Gets Denied

About a third of the Austin homeowners who reach Holden Roofing had a claim denied or underpaid before they ever called us. The first roofer read the denial letter and moved on to the next street.

A denial is not the end of a hail claim. It is usually the start of the real work.

The Question to Ask

“What Do You Do If My Insurance Says No?”

Listen for specifics: re-inspection requests, a rep on the roof with the adjuster, supplements, appraisal. If all you hear is “we’ll see,” that roofer has never fought a denial.

How Holden Roofing Answers It

We go back up the ladder with the adjuster, document every hit, and push the claim through re-inspection, supplements or appraisal when the evidence supports it. And when it does not, we tell you that too.

★★★★★

“My insurance denied the damage on my roof completely. Then I hired an adjuster to fight them, still nothing worked. After that, they sent me to a lawyer, and I had almost no hope left. A friend recommended Timothy and sent him to meet me. It took him less than 2 hours to get the insurance to agree to come back to my house and re-inspect. In just 24 hours, they approved and agreed to pay for my entire roof!”

New architectural shingle roof from above

Problem Three: The Four-Nail Roof Sold Under a Thirty-Year Warranty

A shingle roof is only as good as the nails, underlayment and ventilation under it, and none of that shows up in a photo of the finished job.

The cheapest bid in Austin usually gets cheap by nailing four per shingle, skipping ice and water shield in the valleys and reusing old pipe boots. It looks new for about three summers.

The Question to Ask

“Who Backs the Workmanship, You or the Manufacturer?”

A roofer’s own warranty is only as good as the roofer’s phone number. Ask whether the shingle manufacturer itself stands behind the installation, and ask to see the registration.

How Holden Roofing Answers It

Owens Corning does. Holden Roofing builds to the full Owens Corning system: six nails on steep slopes, synthetic underlayment, ice and water shield, new drip edge, new boots and ridge vents. That qualifies your roof for Platinum Protection, which covers our workmanship too.

That is the difference between a roof that looks new and a roof that is still new in 2040.

Seven Questions Austin Homeowners Ask Holden Roofing on the First Call

These are the real questions, in the words homeowners use, with the answers Holden Roofing gives every one of them. If another Austin roofer cannot answer these as plainly, keep calling.

“Are You Going to Be Around in Ten Years?”

Yes. The Holden family has roofed Texas since 1961 and has had an Austin office since 1997, now at 111 W Anderson Ln. Workmanship problems take years to show. We plan to be here when they do.

“Do I Have to Sign Anything to Get the Inspection?”

No. No contingency agreement on the porch, no “we inspect once you commit.” You get the inspection and the photo report free, and then you decide, with nobody standing over you.

“Who Is Actually Going to Be on My Roof?”

A Holden Roofing crew, managed by a Holden Roofing project manager whose name and cell number you have. Roughly 400 installers work for Holden Roofing across Texas, many with ten or more years on roofs.

“Can You Just Cover My Deductible?”

No, and no honest Texas roofer will. Texas House Bill 2102 makes waiving or absorbing your deductible a Class B misdemeanor. A roofer who offers it is telling you how he plays every other rule.

“Is My Roof Really Damaged, or Are You Trying to Sell Me One?”

You get the photos and the hit counts, and you decide. If the damage will not clear your carrier’s threshold, Holden Roofing tells you before you file, so a claim you cannot win does not sit on your record.

“How Fast Can You Get Here After a Storm?”

Most Austin inspections happen within a few days of the call. If water is coming in, a Holden Roofing crew tarps and dries in the roof first, then documents the damage for your claim.

“Will You Handle My HOA?”

Yes. From Circle C to Steiner Ranch, Holden Roofing pulls the approved color list, fills out the architectural request and waits for the sign-off before a single shingle comes off. No fines, no surprise letters from the board.

Ask every roofer you are considering these same seven questions. Then call Holden Roofing at (512) 750-0523 and ask us again.

What You Actually Need From an Austin Roofing Contractor, and Why Holden Roofing Is Built Around It

You need a roofing company that will still answer the phone in ten years, because that is how long a workmanship problem takes to show up. Here is what you need, and here is how Holden Roofing delivers each one in Austin.

01

A Manufacturer That Vouches for the Installer

Owens Corning invited Holden Roofing into its Platinum Preferred Contractor tier, which fewer than 7 percent of Preferred Contractors reach. It is not a sticker you buy.

Owens Corning reviews installation quality, customer satisfaction and business practices before extending it, and only Platinum contractors can offer the Platinum Protection lifetime workmanship warranty.

What the Platinum Warranty Covers on Your Austin Roof

Materials

Owens Corning Duration, Duration FLEX, Oakridge and the other eligible shingle lines carry a limited lifetime material warranty for as long as you own the home, with 130 mph wind coverage on Duration.

Workmanship

The Platinum Protection warranty extends coverage to the installation itself. If a Holden Roofing crew made the mistake, Owens Corning stands behind the fix. Most Austin roofers cannot offer that because they are not in the tier.

02

A Company With Sixty-Five Years of Texas Roofs Behind It

The Holden family has roofed Texas homes since 1961, more than 100,000 roofs across seven offices in Austin, Houston, Spring, San Antonio, San Marcos, Temple and Dallas. Roughly 400 installers work for Holden Roofing statewide, many with a decade or more on roofs and some past thirty years.

Your Austin roof is not going to a crew hired off a job board the week after the storm.

03

Reviews That Cover Every Austin Hail Season Since 2018

Holden Roofing Austin holds 4.6 stars across 382 Google reviews, 342 of them five stars. Read them in bulk and the same names come up: Tim Carr, Colin Crenshaw, John Winn, Chris Pickard, Brandon, Timothy, Mason. Real project managers that homeowners thank by name, year after year.

04

A Free Inspection With No Strings, and Photos You Keep

Holden Roofing inspects for free, gives you the photo report, and does not ask you to sign anything to get it. No contingency agreement on the porch. No “we’ll inspect once you commit.” You get the truth about your roof, and then you decide.

05

The One Thing Holden Roofing Is Not

Holden Roofing is rarely the cheapest bid in Austin, and that is on purpose. A six-nail Owens Corning system with new flashing, new boots and a registered Platinum warranty costs more than a four-nail roof with reused parts. Several reviewers say they got lower bids.

They also say why they chose Holden Roofing anyway.

How to Reach Holden Roofing in Austin, and What Happens Next

Call (512) 750-0523 or text a photo of your roof, and a Holden Roofing project manager who works out of the Anderson Lane office schedules your free inspection. No call center in another state. No appointment setter reading a script. A person who has walked hundreds of Austin roofs.

The First Visit

Within a few days you have photos of every slope, a plain explanation of what we found, and a written recommendation: repair, replace, or leave it alone. If there is a storm claim in play, you also hear whether the damage is likely to clear your carrier’s threshold before you file.

Roofing Services in Austin: Retail Roofing and Storm Roofing From One Team

Holden Roofing handles both sides of the roofing business in Austin, the roof you pay for yourself and the roof your insurance company pays for, with the same crews and the same Owens Corning standard. Most Austin roofers are built for one or the other.

Holden Roofing was built for both because Central Texas weather does not pick.

Book a roof inspection before you buy or sell a home in Austin, before a roof warranty expires, and after any storm that drops hail bigger than a quarter within a few miles of your address. It is free, and it does not obligate you to anything.

Roof Replacement
02

Roof Replacement

A Holden Roofing roof replacement means full tear-off to the deck, deck inspection and repair, synthetic underlayment, ice and water shield at the valleys, new drip edge and flashing, proper ventilation and a complete Owens Corning shingle system.

Most Austin homes under 3,000 square feet are torn off and dried in the same day.

What a Same-Day Replacement Looks Like on Your Street

Crews arrive at first light and cover landscaping, pool and AC units. Decking is checked board by board. Dry-in is done before lunch on most homes, shingles go down through the afternoon, and a dedicated crew member runs magnets through the beds before the trucks leave.

★★★★★ “This whole process of replacing our shingles was very stressful. Holden roofing (Brandon) made it manageable. They worked with us and our insurance company to get the paperwork filed properly. We only had to pay our deductible in the end. When the time came to install it, they showed up on time, and their team was a machine. The old roof was off by 10 am. They were finished by 4.” Conrad Fjetland, 5 stars, September 2026. · Read this review on Google →

Roof Repair
03

Roof Repair

Roof repair is the right call when the damage is isolated and the rest of the roof has years left: a lifted section after a wind event, a failed pipe boot, cracked chimney flashing, a skylight leak.

Holden Roofing quotes the repair separately from a replacement, so you are never sold a new roof to fix a $600 leak.

Emergency Roof Repair and Tarping
04

Emergency Roof Repair and Tarping

When water is coming through the ceiling tonight, Holden Roofing tarps and stabilizes the roof before the next round of weather. Temporary dry-in protects insulation, drywall and wiring, and documented mitigation is something most Texas policies expect you to do.

The damage is photographed before the tarp goes on so nothing is lost for the claim.

Storm Roofing in Austin

01

Hail Damage Roof Repair

Hail does three kinds of damage to an Austin roof, and only one of them is visible from the driveway.

Holden Roofing inspectors look for all three: granule loss and mat bruising on the shingles, dents in the soft metals that date and size the storm, and broken seal strips from the wind that came with it.

02

Wind Damage Roof Repair

The same storm that drops hail brings 60 to 80 mile per hour gusts, and a shingle that lifted once will lift again. Holden Roofing checks seal strips on every slope and treats a wind-lifted roof as the insurance event it is, with the date of the gust on the claim.

03

Hurricane and Severe Storm Damage

Central Texas does not take hurricane landfalls, but the remnants of Gulf storms and the spring supercells that build over the Hill Country do the same work. Holden Roofing’s Houston and San Antonio offices run hurricane claims every season, and the Austin office uses the same playbook.

What the Adjuster Looks For
Test squares and hit counts

Adjusters count hail hits inside a 10 by 10 foot square on each slope. Most carriers want 8 or more per square to approve a slope. Holden Roofing chalks the squares before the adjuster arrives.

Soft metal damage

Dented turbine vents, gutters, downspouts and AC fins prove hail size and direction. Holden Roofing photographs every one of them.

Collateral damage

Window screens, fence stain, patio covers and outdoor furniture. If the hail is documented, the carrier pays to repair them too.

Storm, Hail and Wind Damage in Austin: What Hit, When, and What It Did to Your Roof

Austin sits on the eastern edge of the Balcones Escarpment, a 500-foot limestone drop that forces warm Gulf air upward and gives spring supercells their lift. Storms build over the Hill Country, intensify over Westlake, Bee Cave and Dripping Springs, hammer central Austin, and weaken east of I-35.

Western suburbs file hail claims at rates 40 to 60 percent higher than eastern Travis County.

Texas has led the nation in major hail events for eleven straight years, with 902 in 2025 alone. Travis County logs three to five damaging hail events in a typical year, and Austin’s peak window runs through the first three weeks of April with a second stretch late May into June.

We watched our many neighbors get their roofs replaced and then decided which company to go with by word of mouth and seeing the quality of the new roofs around us. Timothy was wonderful to work with. Our roof was replaced in a very high quality, professional manner.”

What Those Storms Did to Austin’s Roofs, House by House

1950s to 1970s Ranch Homes in Allandale, Crestview, Hyde Park and Windsor Park

Low-slope roofs, often with a second layer of shingles and plank decking that has been wet before. Wind gets under the eaves first. Holden Roofing checks decking before quoting and writes a per-sheet allowance into the estimate.

1990s to 2010s Two-Story Homes in Circle C, Avery Ranch, Steiner Ranch and Teravista

Steeper pitches, more hips, more penetrations. Hail bruises the south and west slopes first. Most of these homes are on their second roof already, and the builder-grade first roof was never built for Hill Country hail.

Custom Homes in Westlake, Lakeway, Barton Creek and Rollingwood

Tile, slate and standing seam on 4,000 to 8,000 square foot houses with complicated rooflines. The tile usually survives the hail. The underlayment under it is what fails at year 25, and Holden Roofing’s tile crews lift, reset and re-flash rather than tearing off sound tile.

How Holden Roofing Handles Your Austin Insurance Claim

Holden Roofing inspects, documents, meets the adjuster, builds to the approved scope, and recovers your depreciation, and it has done that on thousands of Central Texas storm claims. You still own the claim and the policy.

Holden Roofing’s job is to make sure the carrier sees everything the roof is telling us.

The Five Steps of an Austin Hail Claim With Holden Roofing

Step 1 of 5 · Inspection and Photo Report
1

Step 1. Inspection and Photo Report

A Holden Roofing project manager walks the roof, the attic and the property and builds a photo report with test squares, soft metal damage and collateral damage.

2

Step 2. The Honest Threshold Call

You hear plainly whether the damage clears your carrier’s typical threshold. If it does not, Holden Roofing tells you not to file. A denied claim on your record helps nobody.

3

Step 3. The Adjuster Meeting

Your Holden Roofing rep is on the roof with the adjuster pointing out every hit, so the scope reflects what is actually there.

4

Step 4. Scope Review and Supplements

If the carrier misses code items, decking, drip edge or ventilation, Holden Roofing submits supplements with the documentation to support them.

5

Step 5. Build, Invoice and Depreciation Release

Holden Roofing builds to the approved scope, sends the carrier the final invoice, and helps you recover the depreciation your policy held back.

When the Claim Is Denied

A denied hail claim in Austin is not the end of the road, and several of Holden Roofing’s most detailed reviews come from homeowners who were told no first. Most Texas policies include an appraisal clause.

Holden Roofing reps have walked dozens of Austin homeowners through re-inspection, appraisal and, where it fits, licensed public adjusters.

★★★★★Google Review

“Chris from Holden Roofing was great. After multiple insurance denials, Chris helped us walk thru the appeal and appraisal process. I was skeptical but the process played out exactly as Chris explained it and the end result was our insurance claim was approved through appraisal just as Chris said he expected it to be. For the install, the crews were quick, efficient, and did a great job. I still can’t believe how well they cleaned up afterwards.”

The Texas Deductible Law Every Austin Homeowner Should Know

Since 2019, Texas House Bill 2102 has made it a criminal offense for a roofer to waive, rebate or “absorb” your insurance deductible.

A contractor who offers to eat your deductible is offering to commit insurance fraud with your name on the claim, and carriers can demand proof you paid it before releasing depreciation.

Holden Roofing will never offer to waive a deductible. What Holden Roofing will do is tell you exactly what your out-of-pocket number is before the first shingle comes off.

Book Your Free Hail Inspection Before the Next Austin Storm Season

Every day a bruised roof sits under the Texas sun is a day closer to the carrier calling it wear and tear. Most Texas policies put a one or two year clock on storm claims. If your roof took hail in 2025 or this spring, get it documented now.

Duration

Owens Corning Duration is on more Holden Roofing roofs in Austin than any other product, and there is a reason we can point to: the SureNail strip.

Click for moreClick to close
The SureNail Strip

A woven reinforcement fabric in the nail zone that gives the shingle a 130 mile per hour wind warranty and holds the nail through the thermal cycling that cooks Austin roofs every summer.

Duration FLEX

Duration FLEX is built with polymer-modified SBS asphalt that flexes on impact instead of fracturing, earning the top UL 2218 Class 4 rating.

The Class 4 Test

A 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet, twice on the same spot, with no cracking. Texas Insurance Code Section 2253 requires carriers to offer a premium discount for Class 4 roofs, and Austin-area discounts on the wind and hail portion typically run 20 to 30 percent.

For a home in Steiner Ranch, Avery Ranch or anywhere west of MoPac, FLEX often pays for its upcharge in premium savings alone.

02

Metal Roofing in Austin

Holden Roofing installs standing seam, R-panel and stone-coated steel on Austin homes, barns, porches and commercial buildings. Standing seam uses concealed clips and 24 or 26 gauge Kynar-coated panels and is the system Holden Roofing recommends for a primary residence.

Metal reflects a large share of Austin’s summer solar load and routinely outlives two or three shingle roofs.

Concrete tile roof on a Hill Country homeTile
03

Tile Roofing in Austin

Clay and concrete tile roofs are common in Westlake, Lakeway and Barton Creek, and they need a roofer who understands the underlayment, not just the tile. On most tile roofs the tile is fine at year 25 and the underlayment is what fails.

Holden Roofing lifts and resets sound tile over new high-temperature underlayment, replaces cracked tile, and rebuilds the flashing at walls and chimneys.

04

Flat and Low-Slope Roofing in Austin

Austin’s mid-century homes, garage additions, patio covers and commercial buildings run on low-slope systems, and Holden Roofing’s commercial division installs TPO, modified bitumen, built-up roofing, tapered insulation and roof coatings.

A sound but weathered flat roof can often be extended five to ten years with a silicone or acrylic coating for a fraction of a tear-off.

What a New Roof Costs in Austin in 2026

A full architectural shingle replacement on a typical Austin home runs $9,000 to $26,000+ in 2026, and most of that spread comes from four things: roof size, pitch, how many layers come off, and how much decking is rotten.

Repairs start around $1,200 and run to $8,500+ depending on how much of the roof is involved and whether decking has to be opened up.

What Drives the Range

Every Holden Roofing estimate lists tear-off, decking allowance per sheet, underlayment, ice and water, drip edge, starter, field shingle, hip and ridge, ventilation and permit line by line. If another Austin roofer’s bid is thousands lower, ask which of those lines is missing.

Financing is available through Holden Roofing’s financing partners for homeowners paying out of pocket or covering a large deductible.

“They Got It Approved Where Other Roofers Failed”

★★★★★Google Review

“We have had 4 roofing companies that will not help us to work with our insurance company, until Tim Carr of Holden Roofing knocked on the doors and told he will work with the insurance companies and are familiar how the insurance company works and know what to do. I had submitted multiple claims to the insurance company and was rejected every time, Tim with Holden Roofing submitted claim add escalated the claim and keep follow up until the insurance approved the claim and have the roof replaced.”

“Our insurance had already denied one claim and we had another company tell us we would likely get denied again so we didn’t move forward. Holden came in and got it approved on the very first try. Even more impressive than that though, was their work ethic. I’ve never been this impressed with a contractor. And I’m usually very critical.”

“John Winn is the MVP!! He was an excellent partner from start to finish, and made the experience easy, stress-free, and very straightforward. The pricing was much better than other vendors I talked to and the team completed the entire redecking of the roof in one day. The before and after pictures were amazing!”

“Cleaner Than Before They Came”

★★★★★Google Review

“Raul was the crew leader, and they worked very hard, and fast. CLEANED up absolutely wonderful. To the point of not only sweeping with magnets , but crawling on their knees to pick up tiny bits of tar paper. They were great in every way. Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor Holden Roofing.”

“With solar panels on our roof, we were worried about how that would go, but it was all handled seamlessly, and one the roof was done we were up and running again quickly. They also removed and disposed of an old satellite dish. Overall, the Holden team was responsive, professional, and provided a quality product and service.”

Storm Chasers Knock in Austin Too. Here’s How to Tell Holden Roofing From the Rest

Some Holden Roofing reps do knock on doors after a hailstorm, and we would rather tell you that than have you read it in a one-star review. The homeowner almost never knows the roof is damaged, and a free inspection is the only way to find out before the claim window closes.

What separates Holden Roofing from the out-of-town trucks is everything that happens after the knock.

  • A physical Texas office you can drive to. Holden Roofing Austin is at 111 W Anderson Ln, Suite E360A. Ask the other company for theirs.
  • A manufacturer credential you can verify. Owens Corning lists Holden Roofing on its own Platinum Preferred directory. A magnet on a truck is not a credential.
  • A review history that predates this storm. Holden Roofing’s Austin Google reviews go back to 2018.
  • No offer to waive your deductible. That is a crime under Texas HB 2102, and it tells you how the rest of the job will go.
  • A written scope before any contract. A contingency agreement signed on your porch before an inspection is a red flag.
  • Crews who work for the company year-round. Roughly 400 installers across Texas, not a hiring board the week after the storm.

“Colin is the professional I’ve been looking for not the gimmicky sales people that have been flooding our streets. From the initial inspection, he walked my property and did a full 360 visual inspection of my property. Colin then physically got on my roof and spent about 15 to 20 minutes walking the roof inspecting my vents, installation and for damages or areas of concern. Once complete he back briefed me the issues, concerns, and recommendations on how he would move forward if it was his own personal property . With photo evidence from inspection…”

Frequently Asked Questions About Hiring a Roofer in Austin Texas

How much does a roofer in Austin Texas charge to replace a roof?

Between $9,000 and $26,000+ for an architectural shingle roof on a typical 2,000 to 2,500 square foot Austin home in 2026, $18,000 to $43,000+ for standing seam metal, and $25,000 to $58,000+ for tile.

Roof repairs run $1,200 to $8,500+. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles add roughly 15 to 25 percent. Holden Roofing provides a free roof inspection and a written line-item estimate.

Does homeowners insurance cover hail damage roof replacement in Austin?

Yes, in most cases, when the damage is documented and the claim is filed inside the policy’s reporting window. You pay your deductible, commonly 1 to 2 percent of dwelling coverage in Texas. Holden Roofing inspects, documents and meets your adjuster so the scope reflects all of the damage.

Can a roofer legally waive my deductible in Texas?

No. Texas House Bill 2102 has made it a Class B misdemeanor since 2019 for a contractor to waive, rebate or absorb an insurance deductible. Insurers can require proof you paid it. Any Austin roofer who offers to cover your deductible is offering to commit insurance fraud on your claim.

How long does a roof replacement take in Austin?

One day for most shingle roofs under about 3,500 square feet, and one and a half to two days for larger, steeper or multi-layer roofs. Metal and tile run two to five days. Holden Roofing orders materials to arrive the day before and tears off only what can be dried in the same day.

Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Austin?

Not for a standard like-for-like residential re-roof inside the City of Austin. A permit is required for structural decking or framing repair, new skylights or solar mounts, or a pitch change. Surrounding cities have their own rules, and Holden Roofing pulls whatever permit applies.

What is an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor, and why does it matter?

It is the highest contractor tier Owens Corning offers, extended by invitation to fewer than 7 percent of its Preferred Contractors. Only Platinum Preferred Contractors can offer the Platinum Protection limited lifetime warranty, which covers workmanship as well as materials.

Holden Roofing holds this status statewide.

Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth it in Austin?

Usually yes, west of I-35 and north of the river. Texas Insurance Code Section 2253 requires carriers to offer a premium discount for UL 2218 Class 4 roofs, and Austin-area discounts typically run 20 to 30 percent on the wind and hail portion.

Owens Corning Duration FLEX is Holden Roofing’s Class 4 shingle.

Does Holden Roofing repair roofs, or only replace them?

Both. Holden Roofing Austin repairs wind-lifted shingles, pipe boots, flashing, skylights, chimney crickets and flat roof seams, and several Austin reviews describe Holden Roofing recommending no work at all after an inspection.

Repair is the right call when damage is isolated and the roof has at least five years left.
