Here’s the Truth About Hiring a Roofer in Elgin TX, and How Holden Roofing Changes It
More than 3,000 roofers list Austin as a service area, and when golf ball hail landed on the north side of Elgin on April 9, 2024, a good share of them suddenly discovered US 290. Within two days, trucks nobody in town recognized were knocking on doors in Trinity Ranch.
Elgin made that easy. The town went from 9,784 people in 2020 to roughly 12,300 by 2023, so thousands of roofs share the same age, the same open prairie and the same storms.
If six different roofers leave a flyer on your door in one week, which one do you actually let on the roof?
The one who passes the questions below. First come the three problems Elgin homeowners hit most often, the single question that exposes each one and how Holden Roofing answers it. After that, seven questions Elgin families put to us before they hire anyone.

Problem One: The Out-of-Town Truck That Chased the April 9, 2024 Hail Into Trinity Ranch
After a prairie hailstorm, the first roofer on your porch is usually the one with the least reason to stay. A small town like Elgin lets one crew cover every street in Trinity Ranch and Eagles Landing over a single weekend, collect signatures and roll on toward the next storm.
The trouble shows up later. When the carrier underpays or the valley starts dripping two summers on, the contract lists an address in another state and a phone number that just rings.
“If This Roof Leaks in 2030, What Texas Address Do I Drive To?”
A chaser hands you a cell number and a website, or says the company is “setting up a local office soon.” If nobody can name a street, a city and a year they opened it, the roof on your house is the only thing they will leave behind.
How Holden Roofing Answers It
111 W Anderson Ln in Austin, where Holden Roofing has run its Austin office since 1997, about 40 minutes up US 290 from your driveway. The Holden family has roofed Texas homes since 1961, more than 100,000 of them.
Our reps do knock after Elgin storms, because a bruise is invisible from the yard. The difference is the Owens Corning Platinum Preferred listing anyone can check, and an Austin review trail that starts in 2018, long before the April 2024 storm.
“Great experience working with Tim. Our whole block has Holden Roofing signs from the hail storm a couple of months ago, and after working with them it’s pretty clear why. The whole process was handled for us from the insurance claim to the inspection and repairs. Tim was always available by text or call and before we knew it the roof was done.”

Problem Two: The Hail Inspection Done From the Curb
On the open prairie, hail strikes the south and west slopes hardest, and a fingertip-sized bruise on those slopes cannot be seen from a pickup window. Some roofers write an Elgin replacement number without a ladder ever coming off the truck.
Then the adjuster climbs up and finds less than you were promised. That gap lands on your checkbook, not theirs.
“How Many Hits Did You Count in the Test Square on My West Slope?”
A curbside roofer has no number to give you. Expect “there’s definitely damage up there” or “the whole neighborhood is getting roofs.” If the person quoting your roof never drew a square, they are guessing with your claim.
How Holden Roofing Answers It
We give you the count, slope by slope, with the photo to prove each one. A Holden Roofing project manager chalks a 10 by 10 foot test square on every slope, counts the strikes the way an adjuster will, and shoots the gutters, vents and AC fins.
The attic gets checked for daylight too, and the photo file is in your hands before we leave. Most carriers look for eight or more hits per square, and when your roof falls short, you hear that from us before you file.
“Great experience with Colin from Holden Roofing. He and his crew were always punctual and professional. When it came to working with insurance he made sure to be extremely thorough with his inspection and evaluation. His crew came out early to get started on the roof and made sure to clean everything up when they were done.”

Problem Three: The Austin Crew That Has No Idea Elgin Wants a Permit
Austin lets a like-for-like re-roof go without a permit, but inside Elgin city limits a roof replacement needs a city permit and inspections. A crew that spends most of its year in Austin either never learned the difference or is counting on you not knowing it.
An unpermitted roof follows the house. It surfaces on the day a buyer’s inspector asks, and on the day you need a warranty claim honored.
“Am I Inside Elgin City Limits, and Who Is Filing My Permit?”
Listen for “you don’t need one out here” or “we’ll handle it if the city asks.” Either answer tells you the roofer has never worked Elgin, or has and skipped the paperwork anyway.
How Holden Roofing Answers It
We check your address against the city line first, then file the permit ourselves. Holden Roofing submits it through the My Government Online portal to the Building Division at the Fleming Center, 802 N Avenue C, and books the city inspection before a crew date is set.
Out in unincorporated Bastrop County there is no county re-roof permit, and you hear that in writing too. Either way, you know which side of the line your roof sits on.
Seven Questions Elgin Families Put to Holden Roofing Before They Hire a Roofer
These come straight from Elgin kitchen tables, from Westwind to the depot district, and each one gets a plain answer. If the next roofer you call gets vague on any of them, hang up and dial someone else.
01“We Bought in Westwind Two Years Ago. How Do We Find Out What Storms This Roof Already Took?”
Let us climb it and read it for you. Dented vents, gutters and AC fins hold the size and direction of past hail, and Holden Roofing photographs every one. You get a report on the roof you bought, not the one in the listing.
02“Nothing Drips Inside Our Harvest Ridge House. Why Would the April 2024 Hail Still Matter?”
Because bruises leak late. A 1.5 inch stone dents the shingle mat without breaking it, and 29 days over 100 degrees bake that dent into a crack. Dry ceilings today prove nothing, and most policies give you only one or two years to report.
03“Our Bungalow by the Old Depot Sits on Plank Boards, Not Plywood. Can You Even Roof Over That?”
Not over it, down to it. Holden Roofing strips every old layer to the planks, swaps out the soft boards and writes the board allowance into the estimate before tear-off, so the number does not surprise you on install day.
04“Gusts Come Across the Blackland Prairie With Nothing to Slow Them. Which Shingle Holds Out Here?”
Owens Corning Duration, nailed the way the warranty demands. The SureNail strip carries a 130 mph wind warranty, and Holden Roofing sets six nails per shingle on steep slopes. Duration FLEX adds the Class 4 hail rating on top.
05“Is the Crew on My Roof Hired for This Storm, or Have They Been With You for Years?”
They work for Holden Roofing year-round. About 400 installers roof for us across Texas, many with a decade or more on a roof, and your project manager stays your contact from inspection to final walkthrough.
06“My Kids Run Barefoot in That Yard. How Sure Are You About the Nails?”
Sure enough to walk it twice. Tarps go over the beds and AC unit before tear-off, and a crew member runs a magnet through the yard, the flower beds and the street gutter before any truck pulls out. Then your project manager walks the finished job with you.
07“When the Roof Is Done, Whose Name Goes on the Owens Corning Warranty?”
Yours, and we file it. Only Platinum Preferred contractors can register Platinum Protection, the tier that covers workmanship as well as shingles. Holden Roofing registers it in your name at the final walkthrough.
Ask every roofer who knocks on an Elgin door these same questions, and write down how each one answers. When you are ready for straight answers on your own roof, call Holden Roofing at (512) 750-0523 and a project manager will come out US 290 to walk it for free.
What You Actually Need From an Elgin Roofing Contractor, and Why Holden Roofing Is Built Around It
You need a roofer who will still answer the phone when a workmanship problem finally shows itself, which on an Elgin roof is usually year eight to year twelve. Here is the short list, and how Holden Roofing covers each item.
A Manufacturer That Vouches for the Installer
Owens Corning extended Platinum Preferred status to Holden Roofing by invitation, after reviewing installation quality, customer satisfaction and business practices. Fewer than 7 percent of Preferred Contractors hold it, and no one can buy it off a truck magnet.
What the Platinum Warranty Covers on Your Elgin Roof
Materials
Duration and Duration FLEX come with a limited lifetime warranty on the shingle itself for as long as you own the home, and both are rated for 130 mph wind. On the open prairie east of SH 130, that wind rating is not decoration.
Workmanship
The Platinum Protection warranty is the only Owens Corning tier that covers the installation itself, and only Platinum contractors can register it. When the mistake belongs to a Holden Roofing crew, Owens Corning backs the fix.

Reviews That Name the Project Manager Who Handled the Claim
A Free Inspection With No Strings, and Photos You Keep
The One Thing Holden Roofing Is Not
Reviewers mention collecting cheaper bids. Then they explain what the extra money bought.
“We had an outstanding experience with Holden Roofing, particularly with their sales rep/project manager, Tim Carr… Tim also guided us through dealing with our insurance company, which was a huge relief. He ensured all the paperwork was handled properly… Most importantly, Tim was insistent on maintaining high-quality standards throughout the project.”
“They did a great job with replacing my roof. They communicated clearly, gave a fair straightforward quote, and handled my insurance with ease. Tim Carr, was the point lead on this and he was exceptional and professional the entire way through. 10/10”
How to Reach Holden Roofing From Elgin, and What Happens Next
Call (512) 750-0523 or text a photo of your roof, and a Holden Roofing project manager based at the Anderson Lane office books your free inspection. Elgin is 28 miles and about 40 minutes east on US 290, and project managers already working Manor are often closer than that.
Not a call center two time zones away. Not a scheduler reading a script. Someone who has walked prairie roofs after prairie hail.
The First Visit
Within a few days you have photos of every slope, the soft metals and the attic, plus a written recommendation: repair, replace, or leave it alone. If a storm claim is in play, you hear whether the damage is likely to clear your carrier’s threshold before anyone files anything.

Holden Roofing AustinRoofing Services in Elgin: Retail Roofing and Storm Roofing From One Team
Holden Roofing runs both halves of the roofing trade in Elgin, the roof you pay for yourself and the roof your carrier pays for, with the same crews, the same Owens Corning spec and the same permit. Most roofers are built for one side or the other.
Elgin weather does not care which side you are on, so Holden Roofing was built for both.

Free Roof Inspection
A Holden Roofing inspection covers the shingle field, every penetration and flashing, the soft metals, the attic side of the deck, and the collateral on the ground: gutters, screens, fences and patio covers. The photos are yours. So is the decision.

Roof Replacement
A Holden Roofing replacement in Elgin means full tear-off to the deck, board-by-board deck inspection, synthetic underlayment, ice and water shield in the valleys, new drip edge and flashing, proper ventilation and a complete Owens Corning shingle system.

Most Elgin subdivision homes are stripped and dried in the same day.
What a Same-Day Replacement Looks Like in Trinity Ranch or Harvest Ridge
Trucks roll in at first light and tarp the landscaping, AC unit and driveway. Every sheet of decking gets checked after tear-off.
Dry-in is done before lunch on most homes, shingles go down through the afternoon, and one crew member walks the beds and the street gutter with a magnet before anyone leaves.

Roof Repair
Repair is the right answer when the damage is isolated and the rest of the roof has years left: a wind-lifted section on the west slope, a cracked pipe boot, a rusted valley on a downtown bungalow, R-panel screws backing out on a shop.
Holden Roofing prices the repair as a repair, so a $700 pipe boot never turns into a $15,000 conversation.

Emergency Roof Repair and Tarping
When water is coming through the ceiling tonight, Holden Roofing tarps and stabilizes the roof before the next line of storms crosses SH 95. Documented mitigation protects your insulation and drywall, and most Texas policies expect you to do it.
Every damaged area is photographed before the tarp covers it, so the claim file loses nothing.
“Timothy was excellent at providing on site assessment and coordinating with insurance… The job was completed as planned and the new roof looks excellent! The crew cleaned up post installation and have not found any nails in my yard. Tim was easy to contact during the entire process and was highly knowledgeable!”
Storm Roofing in Elgin
Hail Damage Roof Repair
Hail does three kinds of damage on an Elgin roof, and only one shows from the ground.
Holden Roofing inspectors look for all three: granule loss and mat bruising in the shingle field, dents in the soft metals that size and date the storm, and broken seal strips from the straight-line wind that came with it.
Wind Damage Roof Repair
Open prairie gives wind a running start, and a gust of 60 to 80 miles per hour that lifts a shingle once will lift it again the next time. Holden Roofing tests the seal strips slope by slope and writes a wind-lifted roof up as the dated insurance event it is.
Hurricane and Severe Storm Damage
Elgin does not take hurricane landfalls, but Gulf remnants tracking up US 290 and spring supercells crossing from the Hill Country do the same work on a roof.
The Holden Roofing offices in Houston and San Antonio work hurricane claims every year, and the Austin team brings that same process out US 290.
What the Adjuster Looks For
Test squares and hit counts
An adjuster counts hits inside a 10 by 10 foot square on each slope, and most carriers want eight or more in that square before they approve it. Holden Roofing has the squares chalked and counted before the adjuster parks.
Soft metal damage
Turbine vents, gutters, downspouts and AC fins hold dents that prove how big the hail was and which way it came from. Holden Roofing photographs all of them, on the house and on the shop.
Collateral damage
Window screens, fence stain, patio covers and R-panel on outbuildings. Once the hail is on record, those repairs belong on the claim as well.
Storm, Hail and Wind Damage in Elgin: What Hit, When, and What It Did to Your Roof
Elgin sits on the Blackland Prairie east of the Balcones Escarpment, which means the big Hill Country supercells usually weaken before they get here, but the ones that hold together run up US 290 with nothing in their way. No canyon walls, no tree canopy, no high ground to break the wind.
For eleven years running Texas has recorded more major hail events than any other state, 902 of them in 2025. The Austin region takes three to five damaging hail events in a normal year, and Elgin’s share arrives in April and again late May into June.
Western Travis County files more hail claims than Elgin does. Elgin just takes more wind with every one of them.
The Elgin Storms Holden Roofing Crews Still Get Calls About
2021
- April 28 to May 1, 2021.
A week of 2 to 3 inch hail across Central Texas, with the 6.4 inch Hondo stone setting the Texas record. Elgin roofs from that stretch are now five years older and still carrying whatever they took.
2024
- April 9, 2024.
Between 8:02 and 8:18 that evening, spotter and mPING reports logged quarter to golf ball hail on the north side of Elgin, with 1.5 inch stones in the Travis County portion west of SH 95. The largest stone reported was 1.75 inches.
- May 30, 2024.
A supercell dropped 4 inch hail near Coupland and 2.75 inch hail at Thrall, both within ten miles of Elgin’s north edge.
- December 24, 2024.
Half dollar hail, 1.25 inches, fell on Elgin itself on Christmas Eve. Almost nobody thought to inspect a roof that week.
2025
No hail was reported within ten miles of Elgin in 2025. The May 28, 2025 microburst that stripped roofs in Manor, Del Valle and East Austin stopped a few miles short of the Travis County line.
2026 So Far
- April 18, 2026.
Quarter hail in Brushy Creek and Round Rock, roughly 30 miles northwest of Elgin.
- May 9, 2026.
Quarter hail across Round Rock and Pflugerville, roughly 25 miles west of Elgin along the SH 130 corridor.
No hail has been reported inside Elgin in 2026. The April 2024 roofs are the ones still carrying unfiled damage, and most policies put a one or two year clock on that.
“In June 2023, a hail storm damaged our 14 year old roof. A close friend recommended Holden Roofing, and referred me to Devin Richter, the consultant he worked with to request a free roof inspection. Mr. Richter and the Holden Roofing team worked within my schedule and installed our new roof quickly.”
What Those Storms Did to Elgin’s Roofs, Street by Street
Bungalows and Brick Homes Around Main Street and the 1872 Depot
Two or three shingle layers over plank decking, in the town once called the Brick Capital of the Southwest. Layered roofs rarely leak right away after hail, but plank gaps send every crack straight to the attic.
Holden Roofing strips to the deck, replaces bad planks and writes the allowance into the estimate.
2000s Subdivisions in Westwind, Elgin Meadows and Peppergrass
Original builder-grade three-tab or entry architectural shingle, now at or past replacement age. The April 2024 and December 2024 hail landed on roofs that were already brittle. Most of these need a full replacement, not a repair, and the carrier often agrees once the test squares are chalked.
2015 to 2024 Production Homes in Trinity Ranch, Harvest Ridge, Eastwood and Eagles Landing
Steeper pitches, more hips, more penetrations, and a first roof that was never built for prairie hail. A 1.5 inch stone bruises the mat without breaking it. The roof looks fine from the driveway, then leaks two summers later after 200 sunny days and 29 days over 100 degrees bake the bruise open.
Acreage Along FM 969, FM 1100 and Old McDade Road
R-panel metal on homes, barns and shops. Hail dents are cosmetic until a rib is flattened or a fastener washer cracks, and many policies pay for metal damage only when it is claimed correctly. Holden Roofing documents both, structure by structure.
How Holden Roofing Handles Your Elgin Insurance Claim
Holden Roofing inspects, documents, meets the adjuster on the roof, builds to the approved scope and recovers your depreciation, and has done that on thousands of Central Texas storm claims. You still own the policy and the claim.
Holden Roofing’s part is making sure nothing on the roof goes unseen. With the average Texas homeowner hail claim now around $11,700, every undocumented slope is money left with the carrier.
The Five Steps of an Elgin Hail Claim With Holden Roofing
Step 1. Inspection and Photo Report
A project manager walks the roof, the attic and the yard, and builds a photo file with test squares, soft metal damage and collateral damage, including the shop or barn if it is on the policy.
Step 2. The Honest Threshold Call
Your project manager tells you straight whether the hit count is likely to clear your carrier’s threshold. When it will not, Holden Roofing says so and recommends holding off. A denial on your claims history is worse than no claim at all.
Step 3. The Adjuster Meeting
Your Holden Roofing rep is on the roof with the adjuster, slope by slope, so the scope reflects what is actually there and not what was visible from the ladder.
Step 4. Scope Review and Supplements
When the carrier leaves out decking, drip edge, ice and water shield, ventilation or the second layer on a downtown home, Holden Roofing submits the supplement with photos to back it.
Step 5. Build, Invoice and Depreciation Release
Holden Roofing builds to the approved scope, sends the carrier the final invoice and completion photos, and helps you recover the depreciation the policy held back.
When the Elgin Claim Is Denied
A denial is where the real work starts, and several of the most detailed Holden Roofing reviews come from homeowners who were told no first. Most Texas policies include an appraisal clause that brings in a neutral umpire.
Holden Roofing reps have walked dozens of Central Texas homeowners through re-inspection, appraisal and, where it fits, a licensed public adjuster.
“Holden Roofing helped us secure insurance coverage for our recent hail damage after our claim had been denied by submissions from two prior companies. Paul Beam patiently answered all our questions and led through the steps to successfully secure the roof replacement we needed. The replacement was done in one day and clean up was impeccable.”
The Texas Deductible Law Every Elgin Homeowner Should Know
Since 2019, Texas House Bill 2102 has made it a Class B misdemeanor, up to a $2,000 fine and six months in jail, for any contractor to waive, rebate, credit or absorb a homeowner’s deductible.
Carriers can demand proof the deductible was paid before releasing depreciation. A “free roof, no deductible” pitch on an Elgin porch is an invitation to commit insurance fraud with your name on the file.
Holden Roofing does not play that game. You get your out-of-pocket number in writing, to the dollar, before a single shingle is pulled.
| Typical Elgin hail claim line item | Usually covered by insurance | Homeowner responsibility |
|---|---|---|
| Tear-off and disposal, including second and third layers downtown | Yes | Deductible only |
| Shingles, underlayment, starter, ridge cap | Yes, at approved scope | Upgrades beyond like-for-like |
| Plank decking replacement on older homes | Often, with documentation | Varies by policy |
| Drip edge, ice and water at valleys, ventilation code items | Often, with supplement | Varies by carrier |
| R-panel on a barn or shop listed on the policy | Yes, if the structure is scheduled | Cosmetic dent coverage varies |
| Gutters, screens, AC fins, fence stain | Yes, if hail damaged | Deductible only |
| City of Elgin permit fee | Usually, as a code item | Supplemented if omitted |
| Upgrade from Class 3 to Class 4 impact shingle | Sometimes, with IR endorsement | Difference in cost |
| Recoverable depreciation | Released after final invoice | None if completed on time |
Shingle, Metal, Tile and Flat Roofing for Elgin Homes
Holden Roofing installs asphalt shingle, R-panel and standing seam metal, stone-coated steel, clay and concrete tile, and TPO, modified bitumen and built-up low-slope systems across Elgin and the surrounding county roads.
Because Holden Roofing runs residential and commercial divisions, one crew standard covers a shingle house, an R-panel shop and a flat roof on a Main Street storefront.
| Roofing system | Expected life in Elgin | Hail performance | Typical installed cost (2,000 to 2,500 sq ft home) | Best fit in Elgin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Owens Corning Duration architectural shingle | 20 to 30 years | Class 3 impact, 130 mph wind warranty | $9,000 to $26,000+ | Homestead Estates, Westwind, Elgin Meadows, insurance replacements |
| Owens Corning Duration FLEX (Class 4) | 25 to 30 years | UL 2218 Class 4, polymer-modified, 130 mph | $11,000 to $30,000+ | Trinity Ranch, Harvest Ridge, Eastwood, Eagles Landing, premium discounts |
| Standing seam metal | 40 to 70 years | Excellent, may show cosmetic denting | $18,000 to $43,000+ | Acreage homes on FM 969 and FM 1100, custom builds, long-term owners |
| R-panel and stone-coated steel | 30 to 50 years | Very good | $14,000 to $36,000+ | Barns, shops, ranch homes, outbuildings on the policy |
| Clay or concrete tile | 50+ years | Good, individual tiles can crack | $25,000 to $58,000+ | Rare in Elgin, custom homes with engineered framing only |
| TPO, modified bitumen, built-up (low slope) | 15 to 30 years | Good with proper insulation board | $8 to $16 per sq ft | Downtown brick storefronts, patio covers, commercial on US 290 |
Asphalt Shingle Roofing With Owens Corning
Duration
Owens Corning Duration is on more Holden Roofing roofs than any other product, and the reason has a name: the SureNail strip.
The SureNail Strip
A woven reinforcement fabric in the nail zone that earns the shingle its 130 mile per hour wind warranty and keeps the nail seated through the thermal cycling that cooks an Elgin roof every July.
Duration FLEX
Duration FLEX is built with polymer-modified SBS asphalt that flexes under a hailstone instead of fracturing, which is how it earned the top UL 2218 Class 4 rating.
The Class 4 Test
UL drops a 2 inch steel ball from 20 feet onto the same spot twice, and the shingle has to come through without a crack.
Under Texas Insurance Code Section 2253, carriers must offer a premium discount on Class 4 roofs, and around Austin that discount typically runs 20 to 30 percent of the wind and hail portion.
For a Trinity Ranch or Harvest Ridge home sitting in the open with a 30-year mortgage, FLEX usually pays its upcharge back in premium savings alone.
Metal Roofing in Elgin
R-panel is the working roof of rural Elgin, and Holden Roofing installs it with the correct screw pattern, closure strips and gauge rather than the cheapest sheet on the yard.
Standing seam, with concealed clips and 24 or 26 gauge Kynar-coated panels, is the upgrade Holden Roofing recommends for a house that will stay in the family.
Metal reflects a large share of the summer solar load and routinely outlives two or three shingle roofs.
Tile Roofing in Elgin
Clay and concrete tile are uncommon in Elgin, and concrete tile at 900 to 1,200 pounds per square needs an engineer’s sign-off on the framing before anyone orders a pallet. Where tile exists on a custom home, the tile is usually fine at year 25 and the underlayment is what has failed.
Holden Roofing’s tile crews pull and reset the good tile over new high-temperature underlayment, swap out cracked pieces and rebuild the flashing at walls and chimneys instead of scrapping a sound roof.
Flat and Low-Slope Roofing in Elgin
The brick storefronts along Main Street, the patio covers in the subdivisions and the commercial buildings on US 290 run on low-slope systems, and Holden Roofing’s commercial division installs TPO, modified bitumen, built-up roofing, tapered insulation and coatings.
A tired but watertight flat roof on Main Street can often buy another five to ten years with a silicone or acrylic coating, at a fraction of what a tear-off costs.
“Excellent experience with a metal roof install! The crew did an excellent job of daily debris cleanup. Their internal quality inspection process was thorough and all minor issues were quickly remediated. I appreciated having the same agent available consistently to walk me through insurance, financing, and timeline details, making the entire project seamless.”
What a New Roof Costs in Elgin in 2026
A full architectural shingle replacement on a typical Elgin home runs $9,000 to $26,000+ in 2026, and most of that spread comes from roof size, pitch, how many layers come off and how much plank decking is soft.
Duration FLEX with the Class 4 rating lands between $11,000 and $30,000+, standing seam metal between $18,000 and $43,000+, and tile between $25,000 and $58,000+. A repair runs $1,200 to $8,500+ depending on how much decking has to be opened.
| Elgin home profile | Roof size | Asphalt shingles (Owens Corning Duration) | Standing seam metal | Tile roofing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,700 sq ft single story, Homestead Estates or Elgin Meadows | 20 to 24 squares | $9,000 to $21,000+ | $18,000 to $36,000+ | $25,000 to $46,000+ |
| 2,500 sq ft two story, Trinity Ranch or Harvest Ridge | 26 to 32 squares | $12,000 to $26,000+ | $27,000 to $43,000+ | $34,000 to $58,000+ |
| 3,000 sq ft two story, Saratoga Farms or Eastwood | 32 to 40 squares, steep | $15,000 to $31,000+ | $34,000 to $54,000+ | $43,000 to $70,000+ |
| Roof repair: leak, flashing, pipe boots, wind-lifted section | Under 1 to 3 squares | $1,200 to $8,500+ | $1,500 to $8,500+ | $1,800 to $8,500+ |
What Drives the Range
Every Holden Roofing estimate lists tear-off, decking allowance per sheet, underlayment, ice and water, drip edge, starter, field shingle, hip and ridge, ventilation and the City of Elgin permit, line by line. If another bid is thousands lower, ask which of those lines went missing.
Financing
Financing is available through Holden Roofing’s financing partners for Elgin homeowners paying out of pocket, covering a large deductible, or stepping up from the carrier’s like-for-like scope to Class 4 or metal.
Your Elgin Roof Replacement in Six Steps From First Call to Final Nail Sweep
Free inspection with photos.
A project manager drives out US 290, walks the roof and attic, and shows you the findings on a tablet before pulling out of the driveway.
Line-item estimate or claim scope.
Paying out of pocket, you get an itemized proposal. On a claim, your rep meets the adjuster on the roof, reviews the carrier’s scope and files any supplements.
Material and color selection.
Owens Corning color boards at your kitchen table, and HOA color guidelines checked for Trinity Ranch, Eagles Landing and Harvest Ridge before anything is ordered.
Permit and scheduling.
Holden Roofing files the City of Elgin permit, confirms the install date, and has materials delivered the day before with a heads-up on what to move out of the driveway.
Installation day.
Tear-off, deck inspection, dry-in, shingle or panel installation and a full cleanup with a magnet sweep, usually in one day for a subdivision home and two for a house plus shop.
City inspection, walkthrough and warranty registration.
The city inspection is scheduled, your project manager walks the finished roof with you, registers the Owens Corning warranty, and handles the final invoice and depreciation paperwork.
“Tim took the time to explain the process and made sure that we understood every step of getting our roof replaced. The roof looks great was done quickly and timely. Everything went seamless and the clean up was great. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing roof repairs or replacement.”
Elgin Homeowners on Holden Roofing: 382 Reviews, 4.6 Stars
Read the reviews in bulk and three things come up again and again: a project manager who tells the truth about the roof, a crew that does not quit in the heat, and a claim that got approved after someone else gave up.
“He Honestly Said My Roof Did Not Need Replacing”
“I saw a lot of roofs being replaced in our neighborhood and almost half of them were by Holden roofing… Paul was amazing to work with and was super friendly to talk to. He explained me the process thoroughly and showed me a lot of detailed pictures of the roof. I felt no pressure from him to proceed with roof replacement and he honestly mentioned that my roof was relatively in a good shape and may not need replacing at this time.”
“Two Days With the Temperature Over 100 Every Day”
“Holden Roofing did a great job replacing my shingles in just two days in spite of the temperature going over 100° each day. Returned another day and replaced all of my gutters and downspouts. Timothy, our project manager, who is a delight to work with.”
“Two Insurance Companies Pointed Fingers for a Year. He Fought It Out.”
“We were in a real bind where our roof had been hit byHale. We were out of town when it happened and had actually changed insurance companies after 20 years, before we realized we had damage. The situation was really messy; both insurance companies were pointing the fingers at each other for over a year… It took him three or four months to fight this out with the insurance companies, but our roof and our gutters finally got replaced with full coverage.”

Permits in the City of Elgin
The City of Elgin requires a permit and inspections for roof replacements inside city limits, filed with the Building Division at the Fleming Center, 802 N Avenue C, (512) 281-0119, through the My Government Online portal.
That is a stricter rule than Austin’s, where a like-for-like re-roof needs no permit.
Holden Roofing pulls the Elgin permit as part of every job inside the city. Unincorporated Bastrop County addresses have no county re-roof permit, and Holden Roofing confirms which side of the line your address sits on before tear-off.
Storm Chasers Knock in Elgin Too. Here’s How to Tell Holden Roofing From the Rest
Some Holden Roofing reps knock doors after an Elgin hailstorm, and we would rather say so here than have you learn it from a one-star review. Most homeowners have no idea the roof is bruised, and a free inspection is the only way to find out before the filing window closes.
The knock is the same. Everything after it is where Holden Roofing and the trucks with Oklahoma plates part ways.
- An office with a Texas street address. Holden Roofing Austin has worked out of 111 W Anderson Ln since 1997. Ask the truck in your driveway for its address and see how long the pause is.
- A credential the manufacturer publishes. Holden Roofing appears on Owens Corning’s own Platinum Preferred contractor listing, which anyone in Elgin can check in thirty seconds.
- A review trail that predates April 2024. Holden Roofing’s Austin Google reviews start in 2018 and run through every hail season since.
- Nobody offering to make your deductible disappear. Texas HB 2102 makes that a crime, and a roofer willing to commit one on your porch will cut corners on your roof.
- The right answer on the Elgin permit. If a roofer says you do not need one inside city limits, that roofer has not worked in Elgin.
- A scope in writing before a signature. If someone wants a contingency agreement signed before anyone has climbed the ladder, that is the whole story.
- Installers who were here last year and will be here next year. Holden Roofing keeps roughly 400 of them across Texas, not a hiring board posted the week after the hail.
“We had a hailstorm with golf ball size hail recently in my neighborhood. I noticed the sign for Holden roofing at a neighbor’s house who I trust. So I called Holden and Devin came out and did a thorough inspection of my roof… Devin could easily have told me I needed a new roof but he was honest and forthright in his assessment and I really appreciate that. A good business does good work, a great business doesn’t do the work if it doesn’t need to be done.”
Frequently Asked Questions About Hiring a Roofer in Elgin TX
Call (512) 750-0523
How much does a roofer in Elgin TX charge to replace a roof?
Between $9,000 and $26,000+ for an architectural shingle roof on a typical 2,000 to 2,500 square foot Elgin home in 2026, $18,000 to $43,000+ for standing seam metal, and $25,000 to $58,000+ for tile.
Repairs run $1,200 to $8,500+. Class 4 Duration FLEX runs $11,000 to $30,000+. Holden Roofing provides a free inspection and a written line-item estimate that includes the City of Elgin permit.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Elgin?
Yes, inside city limits. The City of Elgin requires a permit and inspections for roof replacements, filed with the Building Division at 802 N Avenue C through the My Government Online portal. Holden Roofing pulls it as part of the job.
Unincorporated Bastrop County addresses have no county re-roof permit.
How far is Holden Roofing from Elgin, and how fast can someone get here?
About 28 miles and 40 minutes east on US 290 from 111 W Anderson Ln, and project managers already working Manor or the Travis County side are often closer. Inspections are usually scheduled within a few days, and emergency tarping is dispatched the same day the call comes in.
When did hail last hit Elgin?
December 24, 2024, when half dollar hail fell on the city, following the April 9, 2024 storm that dropped golf ball stones up to 1.75 inches on the north side and 1.5 inch hail on the Travis County portion.
No hail was reported within ten miles of Elgin in 2025, and none has been reported inside Elgin in 2026. The closest 2026 events were quarter hail in Pflugerville on May 9 and Brushy Creek on April 18, both 25 to 30 miles away.
Do Trinity Ranch or Eagles Landing HOAs restrict my shingle color?
Usually yes. Most newer Elgin subdivisions, including Trinity Ranch, Eagles Landing and Harvest Ridge, publish architectural guidelines with approved shingle colors, and many require architectural rather than three-tab shingles.
A few restrict metal on the main house. Holden Roofing reads the HOA documents before any order goes in.
Will Holden Roofing put R-panel on my barn or shop?
Yes. R-panel metal on barns, shops and rural homes along FM 969, FM 1100 and the county roads is a regular part of Holden Roofing’s Elgin work. Panels, screws and closure strips are replaced to spec, and hail dents are documented for insurance when the structure is listed on the policy.
What if my insurance company already denied my Elgin hail claim?
Holden Roofing re-inspects, builds a photo file of every strike and requests a second adjuster visit. If the carrier still says no, Holden Roofing walks you through the appraisal clause in your policy, which brings in a neutral umpire.
The Michelle Butler and Elisa Childress reviews above are both post-denial approvals.
Can a roofer legally waive my deductible in Texas?
No. Under Texas House Bill 2102, waiving, rebating or absorbing an insurance deductible has been a Class B misdemeanor for contractors since 2019. Your carrier can ask for proof you paid it before it releases the depreciation check.
A roofer who offers to cover it is asking you to put your name on an insurance fraud.
