Why Katy Calls Holden Roofing4.8 Stars on 957 Google ReviewsOwens Corning Platinum PreferredPermit-Ready Roofs From Old Katy to Cane Island
Katy was a rice town on the “KT” rail line long before it was a suburb, and the Holden family was already roofing Houston-area homes when I-10 opened in 1966. That kind of staying power is what you want on a roof in a city that has taken Harvey, Beryl and a tornado in seven years.
Katy gets a roofer Owens Corning itself vetted: Platinum Preferred. The Holden family has run the business since 1961, crews have finished over 100,000 Texas roofs, and Google shows 4.8 stars from 957 reviews. Home base is First Street in Rosenberg, an 18-mile hop to Katy City Hall.
Whether it is a historic house off Avenue C or a newer two-story in Cane Island, one licensed, bonded and insured Holden Roofing team covers the free roof inspection, any roof repair or emergency tarp, the roof replacement, the storm damage roof repair and the insurance paperwork behind it.
Text us a photo of the roof or call (281) 344-9083. A Holden Roofing project manager will come out to Katy, climb it, photograph it and tell you the truth about it, free.

Here’s the Truth About Hiring a Roofer in Katy TX, and How Holden Roofing Changes It
Thousands of roofing outfits work the Houston metro, and each Gulf storm sends another convoy of unfamiliar pickups west on I-10 toward Katy. In 2024 it happened twice in three months: first after the April 10 tornado, then after Beryl.
Most of those signs were gone by Christmas. The roofs they installed are still up there, along with any shortcuts the crews took.
So how does a Katy homeowner sort the real roofers from the ones chasing the last storm?
So make every roofer answer out loud. Below are three traps Katy homeowners walk into, the single question that springs each trap, and Holden Roofing’s reply. Then come the seven things Katy callers ask us most, with straight replies.

Problem One: The Roofer Who Skips the City of Katy Permit
Inside Katy city limits, the city requires a permit for roofing work, full stop. It is printed on the city’s Permits and Building Services page, and it covers a re-roof just like new construction or a remodel.
A storm crew from out of state may never mention it. An unpermitted roof is the kind of problem that surfaces when you sell the house or file the next claim.
“Whose Name Goes on the City of Katy Roofing Permit?”
A vague reply like “we usually don’t need one for a re-roof” tells you the roofer has not worked inside the city. So does asking you to pull the permit yourself as the homeowner.
How Holden Roofing Answers It
Ours does, and the permit is filed before the tear-off starts. Holden Roofing submits through the city’s Citizen Access Portal and schedules whatever inspection the city requires.
The city has adopted the 2021 International Building Codes, and the install is built to pass on the first visit. If your home sits outside city limits, we tell you which county rules apply instead.

Problem Two: The Roofer Who Disappears When the Claim Comes Back Denied
Wind claims are easy for a carrier to push back on, because a lifted or creased shingle can be written off as “wear and tear.” That is exactly the damage the 2024 tornado and Beryl left on thousands of Katy-area roofs.
When the denial letter shows up, the storm chaser moves on to the next zip code. You are left holding a damaged roof and a closed claim.
“If My Carrier Says No, What Is Your Next Move?”
Someone who has overturned a denial can list the moves without thinking: request a re-inspection, get a second adjuster out, file the supplement, invoke appraisal. Vague reassurance means they have never tried.
How Holden Roofing Answers It
We rebuild the evidence, photographing each creased tab and each lifted course with the storm date attached, and we request a second look. When the new adjuster arrives, our rep is up the ladder too, going slope by slope.
If the evidence will not support a reversal, you hear that from us too, before you spend another month on it.
“Frank Kastl with Holden Roofing was referred by a friend. Frank was very professional and assessed the damage to my roof and deck. I provided information about the denial by my insurance and Frank helped me with the next steps! Frank kept me in the loop and called to check on my progress with my insurance… It has been a year since Hurricane Beryl and I am grateful for Frank!…”
Tonya Clay, 5 stars, July 2025. Read this review on Google →

Problem Three: The Roofer Who Bids an Older Katy Roof Without Checking the Deck
Old Katy has the oldest housing stock in the area, and Greater Katy’s 1960s to 1980s subdivisions are on their second or third roofs. Under those shingles there can be decking that has been wet more than once.
Harvey put water into 645-plus homes inside the city. A bid that never mentions decking is a bid that will grow halfway through tear-off.
“What Happens to My Price if Your Crew Finds Rotten Decking?”
Ask to see the per-sheet decking price in writing. Anything like “we’ll know once we’re up there” means your true cost stays a mystery until your shingles are already in a roll-off.
How Holden Roofing Answers It
The decking allowance is a line item, priced per sheet, on every Holden Roofing estimate before you sign. Crews check the deck board by board once the old shingles come off, and you see photos of any sheet that gets replaced.
No surprise invoice. No crew deciding on its own what your deck is worth.
“The entire process from the quote to the roof installation was very easy and stress free. There were never any surprises or hidden fees… at the completion of my project I knew exactly what the roof cost was to be.”

Seven Questions Katy Homeowners Put to Holden Roofing Before They Hire Anyone
Katy callers ask some version of these seven nearly every time, so here are Holden Roofing’s answers up front. If a roofer you are interviewing cannot be this direct, keep dialing.
“My Address Says Katy, but I’m Not Inside the City. Does That Change Anything?”
Yes, and it matters. Much of Greater Katy is unincorporated Harris or Fort Bend County, and the city permit applies only inside city limits. Holden Roofing confirms which jurisdiction your house sits in before the paperwork starts.
“The Tornado Missed My Street. Should I Still Have Someone Look at My Roof?”
Probably, yes. The April 10, 2024 tornado peaked above 90 mph near Mason Road and still carried 60 to 70 mph winds into neighborhoods. Gusts like that break shingle seals well beyond the visible path.
“Can You Work With Our HOA in Cane Island or Woodcreek Reserve?”
Yes. Master-planned neighborhoods in Katy add HOA review on top of the city permit. Holden Roofing gathers the approved color and material list, files the architectural request and waits for written approval.
“How Far Away Are You, Really?”
About 18 miles. The drive from 2128 First Street in Rosenberg to Katy City Hall runs roughly 30 minutes off-peak, up FM 723 and Katy-Flewellen Road. Close enough to come back when you need us.
“Can You Roll My Deductible Into the Job?”
No. Texas House Bill 2102 makes that deal a Class B misdemeanor for the contractor, whether he calls it a waiver, a rebate or a discount, and the fine runs as high as $2,000. Saying yes pulls your own claim into it.
“Do I Owe You Anything for the Inspection?”
Nothing, and you sign nothing. You get the photos and our recommendation whether you hire Holden Roofing or not. The decision stays at your kitchen table, on your timeline.
“Who Actually Climbs Onto My Roof?”
Holden Roofing crews, not day labor. About 400 installers roof for the company statewide, a good share of them past ten years on the job, and one named project manager stays on your Katy job from inspection to walkthrough.
Put each Katy contractor you are weighing through all seven. After that, dial (281) 344-9083 and hear how Holden Roofing handles them.
What You Actually Need From a Katy Roofing Contractor, and Why Holden Roofing Is Built Around It
Katy roofs live with sticky Gulf air, hurricane gusts and spring hail, so the contractor behind yours needs to still be answering the phone in 2040. These are the pieces that matter, and where Holden Roofing stands on each one.
A Shingle Maker That Puts Its Name Behind the Installer
Owens Corning reserves its Platinum Preferred level for fewer than 7 percent of its Preferred Contractors, by invitation only, and Holden Roofing is one of them. No contractor can buy its way into that tier.
That status is what makes the Platinum Protection limited lifetime warranty available on your Katy roof.
What Platinum Protection Means for a Katy Homeowner
Materials
On eligible Owens Corning shingles, the product warranty is limited lifetime. Duration’s wind coverage goes to 130 mph, a number Katy homeowners started caring about the morning Beryl’s eye rolled over town.
Workmanship
Here is the rare part: the coverage extends to how the roof was put on. A mistake by the installer is covered, something most crews knocking on Katy doors have no way to promise.
Sixty-Five Years and More Than 100,000 Roofs
Roofing Houston-area homes since 1961, the Holden family never moved its headquarters out of Rosenberg. Today Holden Roofing operates seven offices across Texas and counts more than 100,000 roofs replaced.
Katy has grown from a rice town into a city of more than 28,000, and Holden Roofing has been roofing the region the whole time.
Reviews That Name the People Who Did the Work
Katy families can read 957 Google reviews of Holden Roofing Houston, with a 4.8 average and five stars from 902 of those homeowners. Scroll through them and the same project manager names repeat, since one person tends to stay with a job from first call to cleanup.
An Inspection That Costs Nothing and Commits You to Nothing
Every Holden Roofing inspection in Katy is free, and you keep the photo report. There is no contingency form to sign first and no pressure to decide that afternoon. You learn what your roof needs, and the next step is yours.
The Honest Downside of Hiring Holden Roofing
Expect Holden Roofing to land above the cheapest number on your Katy kitchen table. New flashing, fresh boots, a full Owens Corning system and a registered warranty cost more than reused parts and a fast nail gun.
Plenty of homeowners compare quotes and pick Holden Roofing anyway, and they usually explain why.
“Mike guided us through the process, including being our representative to the insurance adjuster. He scheduled the replacement, and was our project manager/point-of-contact… The roofing crew showed up on time; worked through the day and finished the job in one day as promised.”
“Holden Roofing and Mike Talty were recommended to me by a friend who recently had his roof replaced. Mike was very easy to work with and super communicative. He always either answered calls or texts or returned them almost immediately. Their price was on par with other quotes we received but personally knowing another one of their customers and the great experience he had sold me on using Holden. I highly recommend.”
How to Reach Holden Roofing From Katy, and What Happens Next
From 2128 First Street in Rosenberg to Katy City Hall is roughly 18 miles, or about half an hour when traffic cooperates. Most trips run up FM 723, pick up Spring Green Boulevard and Katy-Flewellen Road, then follow Pin Oak Road into Old Katy.
When traffic stacks up, the Grand Parkway north to I-10 is the common alternate. Either way, your project manager knows the road.
The First Visit
On the roof, your project manager covers each slope, then heads into the attic to look at the underside of the deck, and photographs flashing, vents and gutters. You walk away with one of three answers: fix it, replace it, or nothing needed yet, and an honest take on filing.

Roofing Services in Katy: Retail Roofing and Storm Roofing From One Team
Katy roofs come down for two reasons, age or weather, and Holden Roofing does both kinds of work under one roof standard. If a leak call turns into a storm claim halfway through, nobody new has to come out.
Retail Roofing in Katy

Free Roof Inspection
On a Holden Roofing inspection the project manager checks the field shingles, every pipe and vent and the flashing around them, the soft metals, the decking from inside the attic, plus the gutters and window screens. Every photo is yours to keep.
It is worth booking before you buy or sell in Katy, before a warranty runs out, or after any storm that brings 60 mph gusts or quarter-size hail near your street.

Roof Replacement
A Katy replacement from Holden Roofing strips everything down to the plywood, replaces bad sheets, and builds back up: synthetic felt, ice and water membrane in every valley, new metal edge, new flashing, proper attic airflow and the complete Owens Corning system. Most shingle homes wrap in a day.

Replacement Day on a Katy Street
Trucks roll up around sunrise. Tarps go over flower beds, the pool and the condenser before anyone pulls a shingle. After the deck passes and the dry-in is down, new shingles go on through the afternoon, and rolling magnets work the lawn before anyone leaves.

Roof Repair
A roof that is mostly healthy with one problem spot needs a repair, not a sales pitch. Around Katy that usually means a wind-peeled patch, a split rubber boot, flashing that let go at a sidewall or a vent that started leaking.
Holden Roofing prices the repair on its own, so a small leak never becomes a replacement pitch.

Emergency Roof Repair and Tarping
Tree through the ceiling, or rain coming in over the bed? Holden Roofing tarps and secures the roof before anything else. Big trees in Old Katy and the older subdivisions came down on houses during Beryl and the 2021 and 2022 wind events.
Every hole and broken rafter gets photographed first, then the tarp goes on, so the insurance file stays intact.
“Holden has handled now two roofing repairs for us as a result of tree damage. Most recently, I reached out on a Sunday afternoon immediately after a large portion of a tree fell on our roof. Frank Kastl called within an hour and was able to be at my house within two and personally cleaned and tarped the damaged area until the team could be scheduled. The roofing team was prompt and efficient, cleaned up the area well after work. Frank visited after to inspect the work and scan again for nails in the grass. Thank you, Frank and team!”
Storm Roofing in Katy
Hail Damage Roof Repair
Hail reported in and around Katy since 2019 has ranged from quarter size to baseball size, and it bruises shingles in ways you will not see from the yard. Holden Roofing checks for granule loss, cracked mats, dented vents and gutters, and the broken seal strips left by the wind that came with it.
Wind and Tornado Damage Roof Repair
Tornadoes, hurricanes and straight-line gusts have all hit Katy roofs since 2021, and a creased shingle is damaged even if it lies flat again. Holden Roofing lifts tabs to look for broken seals and ties every finding to a dated wind event, like the April 2024 tornado or Beryl.
Hurricane and Tropical Storm Damage
Beryl made landfall near Matagorda as a Category 1, and by about 9 a.m. on July 8, 2024 its eye was sitting over the Katy area. Hurricane damage shows up three ways, wind, wind-driven rain and falling trees, and the claim needs proof of each.
What the Adjuster Looks For
Creased and unsealed shingles
After a hurricane, adjusters lift tabs to find broken seal strips and creases. Holden Roofing marks every one on each slope before the adjuster arrives, so nothing is overlooked.
Impact from trees and debris
Limbs and flying debris leave punctures, cracked decking and torn flashing. Photos taken before any tarp goes on prove what the storm did.
Interior and attic water
Stained decking, wet insulation and ceiling spots show the roof let water in during the storm. Holden Roofing documents the attic side so the interior damage is tied to the event.
Storms, Hurricanes and Hail in Katy: What Hit, When, and What It Did to Your Roof
Katy sits on flat coastal prairie west of Houston, with the open Katy Prairie stretching to the north and west and very little standing between it and the Gulf. Moist Gulf air feeds spring thunderstorms that roll in with hail, straight-line wind and the occasional tornado.
The city also spans three counties, Harris, Fort Bend and Waller, so a single storm can touch homes under three different county offices in the same afternoon.
Katy’s history with hurricanes is old. The 1900 Galveston Hurricane devastated the town back when it was still a rice and cotton stop on the railroad. The storms have not stopped since.
The Katy Storms Holden Roofing Still Hears About
2017: Hurricane Harvey
- Late August 2017.
Harvey flooded more than 645 homes and over 80 businesses inside the City of Katy. City Hall’s first floor and the fire station took water, with about 450 evacuations and 200 swift-water rescues.
- September 1, 2017.
South of Katy, on the road to our Rosenberg office, the Brazos River at Richmond topped out at a record 55.19 feet.
2019 to 2022
- May 9, 2019.
Near Cinco Ranch, less than 5 miles from Katy, stones reached 2.5 inches, the size of a baseball.
- April 18 to 19, 2020.
Hail of 1.0 to 1.5 inches in Katy, golf ball hail about 4.5 miles away, and quarter hail near Legacy Stadium and off Cane Island Parkway.
- May 28, 2021.
The National Weather Service logged multiple trees down and roof damage to some Katy homes.
- March 15 and August 10, 2022.
Golf ball hail near Cinco Ranch in March. In August, trees came down in Katy and Houston Executive Airport measured a 58 mph gust.
2023
- April 5, 2023.
Quarter hail fell inside Katy while 2-inch hen egg stones landed near Cinco Ranch.
2024: Tornado, Derecho, Beryl and a December Twister
- April 10, 2024.
Near Mason Road and Cimarron Parkway, the NWS confirmed an EF-1. Winds peaked past 90 mph and were still 60 to 70 mph as the tornado crossed neighborhoods, leveling a sports bar, battering a tire shop and toppling trees onto homes.
- May 16, 2024.
The Houston derecho knocked out power widely. Katy ISD closed 23 campuses the next day, including Katy High, Katy Junior High and Katy Elementary.
- July 8, 2024.
Beryl’s eye reached the Katy area around 9 that morning. Katy-Flewellen Road lost power poles, and water covered Avenue D at 13th Street, First Street at Pin Oak Road and Town Park Boulevard.
- December 28, 2024.
A tornado hit the Windward community off FM 529 in north Katy, tearing roofs off and flipping vehicles. No one was hurt.
2025
- October 26, 2025.
A 60 mph wind report near Pattison, about 11 miles from Katy. A near miss for the city, but close enough to loosen shingles on the west side.
2026 So Far
- February 14, 2026.
Southeast of Katy, Sugar Land Regional Airport clocked a gust of 67 mph.
- April 30 to May 1, 2026.
Hail fell overnight southeast of Katy, as big as 1.5 inches in Sugar Land and 1 inch in New Territory. Katy proper was not in that swath.
- May 9, 2026.
Quarter-size hail in Katy itself, about a mile from the center of town, and across nearby Cinco Ranch.
Lived in Katy through any of those dates? A roof nobody has climbed since then deserves the free inspection.
“I have used Holden Roofing 3 times since I moved in my current home in 1990; two complete new roofs after hail damage and one repair after hurricane Harvey. Workmanship has been very good; friendly, honest and experienced sales people; and a great experience for me. While I hope I don’t need them any time in near future but, should I they will be the roofing company I will call. A very honest and professional roofing company and Wes and Beth have been a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Holden Roofing Company.”
What Those Storms Did to Katy Roofs, Era by Era
Historic Homes in Old Katy Around Avenue C, First Street and Pin Oak Road
The oldest roofs in the area, with decks that may have been wet before, under mature trees, on streets that flooded in Harvey and again in Beryl. Expect Holden Roofing to look hard at the deck on these houses and to write the per-sheet decking price into your proposal.
1960s to 1980s Subdivisions in West Memorial, Nottingham Country, Memorial Parkway and Williamsburg
Most of these houses are already wearing their second or third roof, and forty-plus years of Gulf wind have tested every seal strip. Lifted ridge caps, cracked boots and limb strikes from mature trees come up again and again. At replacement time, Class 4 is often the smart upgrade.
2008 to Today in Firethorne, Cane Island, Woodcreek Reserve and Young Ranch
Builder-grade first roofs on two-story homes with plenty of hips and valleys. The oldest of these are reaching the end of their first Gulf Coast cycle, and HOA review adds a step to every replacement.
How Holden Roofing Handles Your Katy Insurance Claim
On a Katy storm claim, Holden Roofing handles the inspection, the documentation, the adjuster meeting, the build to the approved scope and the push to release your depreciation. You still own the policy. Our part is making sure the carrier cannot miss anything the roof shows.
Your Katy Claim in Five Steps
Step 1. The Inspection and Photo File
Shingles on each slope, the attic underside, vents and gutters, plus fences and screens if they took hits: all of it gets photographed and tied to the storm date.
Step 2. A Straight Answer on Filing
Before you file, your project manager tells you whether the hits are likely to meet your carrier’s bar. If they are not, you hear “don’t file” from us, which keeps a losing claim off your history.
Step 3. On the Roof With the Adjuster
Our rep is there when the adjuster pulls into your Katy driveway, and climbs with them to show every creased tab and every hail mark, slope after slope.
Step 4. Scope Check and Supplements
If the carrier’s scope skips line items such as bad decking, drip edge, attic ventilation or code upgrades, Holden Roofing sends a supplement backed by photos.
Step 5. The Build, the Invoice and Your Depreciation
Crews build exactly what the carrier approved, Holden Roofing sends in the closing invoice, and then we chase the recoverable depreciation your insurer held back.
When Your Katy Claim Gets Denied
On Katy wind claims, the first “no” is common, because carriers like to label tornado and hurricane damage as “wear and tear.” Nearly every Texas homeowners policy includes an appraisal option, and sharp photos can turn a re-inspection into a yes.
Holden Roofing has stood next to homeowners through second inspections and appraisal, and when it makes sense, points them toward licensed outside help.
“My experience with Holden Roofing and in particular Jason Clark was outstanding! Jason was very pleasant, professional and extremely helpful! I had previously been denied a claim for hail damage by my insurance company. Thanks to Jason, he explained that there were other options to pursue. The result was that I received payment that covered the cost of the roof repair. If you are thinking of replacing your roof, I strongly recommend you contact Holden Roofing and ask for Jason, you will be glad you did! This was a great experience!”
The Texas Deductible Law and Your Katy Roof
Since 2019, Texas House Bill 2102 has barred contractors from waiving, rebating or swallowing a homeowner’s insurance deductible. A violation is a Class B misdemeanor that can bring six months in jail, and your carrier may demand proof of payment before it releases depreciation.
Holden Roofing never offers that deal. What you get instead is a clear out-of-pocket number before the work begins.
One more Katy note: Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties sit outside the TDI designated catastrophe area, so a Katy re-roof does not need a TDI windstorm certificate.
| Katy storm claim line item | What the carrier usually pays | What stays with you |
|---|---|---|
| Stripping and hauling off shingles the storm damaged | Yes | Your deductible |
| Replacement shingles, felt, starter strip and ridge | Yes, within the scope the carrier approves | Any upgrade past like-for-like |
| Decking cracked by a fallen limb or rotted from storm water | Often, with photos | Depends on the policy |
| Metal edge, valley membrane and attic ventilation required by code | Frequently, once supplemented | Carrier by carrier |
| Storm-dented gutters, torn screens, bent AC fins | Yes, with photo proof | Your deductible |
| Emergency tarping after a hurricane or tornado | Usually, as mitigation | Varies by policy |
| Held-back (recoverable) depreciation | Paid once the carrier gets the closing invoice | Zero, when the job is finished inside the deadline |
Shingle, Metal, Tile and Flat Roofing for Katy Homes
Shingle is what most Katy houses wear, but Holden Roofing crews here also put on metal of every common type, tile in clay or concrete, and flat-roof membranes and coatings. Main roof, porch and patio cover all get the same crew standard.
Most Katy homes are shingle, and the bigger question is usually whether to step up to a Class 4 shingle for the insurance discount.
| Roof type | Lifespan near the Gulf | How it handles Katy storms | Installed price range | Best fit in Katy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Owens Corning Duration (architectural) | 15 to 25 years here | SureNail strip rated to 130 mph; StreakGuard against algae | $9,000 to $26,000+ | The bulk of Katy subdivisions and most claim replacements |
| Owens Corning Duration FLEX, Class 4 impact | 20 to 30 years here | Top UL 2218 impact class; SBS rubberized asphalt; 130 mph | $11,000 to $30,000+ | Cane Island, Woodcreek Reserve and anyone chasing the premium discount |
| Standing seam metal | 40 to 70 years | Handles hurricane wind well; hail can leave cosmetic dents | $18,000 to $43,000+ | Old Katy renovations and long-term owners |
| R-panel and stone-coated steel | Decades with proper fastening | Very good | Priced after inspection | Garages, workshops, porches and outbuildings |
| Clay or concrete tile | 50+ years | Tough overall, though a single tile may break | $25,000 to $58,000+ | Mediterranean-style designs and long-term owners |
| TPO, modified bitumen and coatings (low slope) | Depends on system and upkeep | Good with proper insulation board | Priced after inspection | Porch roofs, additions and commercial buildings |
ShingleOwens Corning Shingle Roofing in Katy
Duration
On Katy jobs, Duration goes on more roofs than anything else Holden Roofing sells, because of its wind rating and algae protection. Its StreakGuard technology keeps the dark algae stains common on shaded north slopes in humid Fort Bend from settling in.

Why the SureNail Strip Matters in Katy
SureNail is a strip of tough woven fabric running through the spot where the nails go. Owens Corning backs that design with a 130 mph wind warranty, and the strip grips the fasteners when Gulf gusts pull at the shingle edge.
Duration FLEX
Built from SBS polymer-modified asphalt, Duration FLEX gives under a hailstone rather than shattering, which is how it earns UL 2218 Class 4. Katy sits close to some hail almost every spring, so this is the shingle we usually put on the estimate first.
How a Shingle Earns Class 4
Class 4 means the shingle survived a 2-inch steel ball dropped twice from 20 feet onto one spot with no crack. Texas law, in Insurance Code Section 2253, then requires your carrier to offer a lower premium for a roof carrying that rating.
In the Houston and Fort Bend market, the wind and hail portion of a premium usually drops 15 to 22 percent with a Class 4 roof, which chips away at the upgrade cost every year.
MetalMetal Roofing in Katy
Standing seam is the metal Holden Roofing recommends for a Katy home, with concealed clips and painted panels that shed hurricane rain fast. R-panel and stone-coated steel suit garages, workshops and porch roofs.
A metal roof bounces back much of the July sun, shrugs off wind and often outlives two or three shingle roofs on the same house.
TileTile Roofing in Katy
Clay and concrete tile suit Mediterranean-style houses, and on a tile roof the tile usually outlasts the felt underneath. A tile roof that leaks almost always has an underlayment problem.
Our tile crews pull and stack the good tile, lay fresh underlayment, set new pieces where tiles cracked and rebuild the flashing at walls and chimneys before the tile goes back.
Low-slopeFlat and Low-Slope Roofing in Katy
Porch roofs, room additions and storefronts around Old Katy lean on low-slope systems. Holden Roofing’s commercial crews handle TPO, modified bitumen and coatings on those.
If a flat section is worn but still dry and solid, a coating can buy years without a tear-off.
“Shout out to Holden Roofing for an excellent job installing my new metal roof. Wayne Palomar did a fantastic job assessing my needs and delivering a high quality roofing job at a reasonable price point. Professional and punctual from the start, Wayne laid out the install expectations and they were met every step of the way. Marvin and his crew were on time and knocked the job out quickly and professionally. Will recommend Holden for any roofing job based on my experience.”
What a New Roof Costs in Katy in 2026
Budget $9,000 to $26,000+ to replace the architectural shingle roof on a typical Katy house this year. Square footage, pitch, layers to strip and the number of rotten deck sheets account for most of the gap between the low and high ends.
Upgrading to Class 4 Duration FLEX moves the range to $11,000 to $30,000+. Tile lands at $25,000 to $58,000+, and standing seam metal at $18,000 to $43,000+. A repair runs $1,200 to $8,500+.
| Katy home profile | Approximate squares | Asphalt shingles (Owens Corning Duration) | Standing seam metal | Tile roofing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,600 sq ft historic one-story, Old Katy near Avenue C | 18 to 22 squares | $9,000 to $19,000+ | $18,000 to $32,000+ | $25,000 to $42,000+ |
| 2,600 sq ft 1970s or 1980s home, Nottingham Country or Williamsburg | 27 to 33 squares | $13,000 to $24,000+ | $26,000 to $40,000+ | $34,000 to $52,000+ |
| 3,200 sq ft two-story builder home, Cane Island or Firethorne | 34 to 42 squares | $16,000 to $26,000+ | $29,000 to $43,000+ | $39,000 to $58,000+ |
| Repair: Old Katy flashing leak, split boots or a wind-peeled patch | A few shingles up to about 3 squares | $1,200 to $8,500+ | $1,200 to $8,500+ | $1,200 to $8,500+ |
What Moves a Katy Price Up or Down
A Holden Roofing proposal breaks the job into lines: tear-off, per-sheet decking, underlayment, valley ice and water, drip edge, starter strip, field shingle, ridge and hip, ventilation and the City of Katy permit. If somebody’s bid is far lower, ask which line vanished.
Financing a Katy Roof
Katy homeowners covering a roof themselves, or facing a big deductible, can spread the cost through financing that Holden Roofing arranges with outside lenders.

“The salesman, Chris was great. Holden replaced my roof in August of 2008 just three weeks before Hurricane Ike. The roof was installed in less than one day. Great workmanship! I believe that it saved my home from wind damage. A really bad hail storm in April of 2019 caused some roof damage so I contracted Holden to come out and replace our roof again. A large team showed up and completed the repair in one half day. Clean up was great! I have two houses and will use Holden again!”

Across 957 Google reviews, the stories repeat: a project manager who pushes back on the insurance company, a crew that shows up after a storm, and a yard left clean.
“He Got the Adjuster to Come Back”
“After a major hail storm, Wesley Lackey from Holden came out and quickly inspected the damage, then worked with our insurance agency to get a plan in place for repairs. Wesley was instrumental in going to bat for us with our insurance company when their initial estimate for repairs did not include everything the adjuster originally noted on site. He got the insurance adjuster to come back out to the house and add things his initial written estimate missed….”
After Beryl and the Falling Trees
“My roof was damaged by hurricane Beryl. I contacted Holden Roofing and not only did they overcome the resistance of my home insurance company but my roof replacement is remarkable! They helped me select the appropriate roof and their recommendations came without high pressure or “salesy”tactics. Professional, friendly, and exceptional quality. I am so delighted I chose Holden and would highly recommend them.”
“A tree near my house had broken and fell on, and through my roof and into a bathroom. Holden Roofing did an excellent job of repairing the damaged roof and internal damage. They removed the existing roof and installed a beautiful new roof all in one day! Afterward they cleaned up the yard and driveway, ensuring that no nails were left on the ground. Their salesman, Tony, was involved often in the internal repair work to make sure that ALL damage was removed. I definitely recommend Holden Roofing for any roofing job!”
A Katy Family Recommends Holden Roofing to Its Own
“…Our roof was damaged in the storm earlier this year and we also experienced a roof leak due to the damage… They patiently waited as we got the roof approved with the HOA etc. During the installation, the employees were professional, prompt and took extra care in waking the yard to pick up trash and nails etc… We also referred Stephen and his crew to my parents who are retired and live in Katy. Holden Roofing did an awesome job for my folks as well and we are grateful….”

the incorporated Fort Bend city southwest of Katy, which lost nearly all power during Beryl.

Roofing Permits in Katy
Inside Katy city limits, a permit is required for roofing work. The city’s Permits and Building Services page says permits are required for all new construction, remodeling or roofing. Applications go through the Citizen Access Portal, and the city phone is 281-391-4830.
The city has adopted the 2021 International Building Codes. Master-planned communities such as Cane Island and Woodcreek Reserve add HOA approval on top of the city permit.
Step outside city limits and the county decides. Fort Bend County leaves roofing off its permit list but requires a permit for work inside a floodplain. Harris County’s engineer does not address re-roofing directly, so Holden Roofing checks with the county first.
Storm Chasers Knock in Katy Too. Here’s How to Tell Holden Roofing From the Rest
Holden Roofing reps do knock on some Katy doors after storms, and you should hear that from us first. Wind creases and hail bruises rarely show from the sidewalk, and the reporting clock on your policy starts the day of the storm.
The difference between Holden Roofing and an out-of-town crew shows up in everything that follows the knock.
- A headquarters with a street address. 2128 First Street in Rosenberg, about 18 miles from Old Katy. Ask the next person at your door for theirs.
- A credential you can check. Owens Corning lists Holden Roofing as a Platinum Preferred Contractor in its own directory.
- Reviews older than the storm. 957 Google reviews, built up over years of Houston-area work, not a handful posted last month.
- A permit in the company’s name. Inside Katy city limits, Holden Roofing pulls the roofing permit. Be wary of anyone who asks you to do it.
- No deductible games. Under Texas HB 2102, waiving a deductible is a crime. Whoever suggests it is showing you how they cut corners.
- No contract before the ladder. If someone wants your signature on a contingency form before inspecting the roof, send them on their way.
“Mike Talty showed up on my front door at a very opportune time after the hail storm a few days before. He was very courteous and professional, in introducing himself as a Holden Roofing employee. He was very helpful and responsive to my questions through out the process, from adjuster inspection thru completion….”
Frequently Asked Questions About Hiring a Roofer in Katy TX
Call (281) 344-9083
How much does a roofer in Katy TX charge for a new roof?
Most Katy homes land between $9,000 and $26,000+ for architectural shingles in 2026. Tile runs $25,000 to $58,000+, standing seam metal $18,000 to $43,000+ and Class 4 Duration FLEX $11,000 to $30,000+. Repairs cost $1,200 to $8,500+. Inspections are free.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Katy?
Yes, inside Katy city limits. The city requires permits for all new construction, remodeling or roofing, filed through the Citizen Access Portal. Outside the city, Fort Bend and Harris County rules apply instead, and HOA approval is still needed in master-planned neighborhoods.
Does homeowners insurance pay for tornado or hurricane damage to a Katy roof?
Usually, provided someone documents the damage and you report it inside the policy deadline. Most Texas homeowners policies treat wind from a tornado like April 2024 or a hurricane like Beryl as a covered peril. Holden Roofing photographs the damage and meets the adjuster.
Do I need a TDI windstorm certificate to re-roof in Katy?
No. Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties are outside the TDI designated catastrophe area, so a WPI-8 windstorm certificate does not apply to a Katy re-roof. The City of Katy permit still applies inside city limits.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth it in Katy?
Yes, for most Katy homes. State law requires insurers to put a Class 4 discount on the table, and Katy-area homeowners typically see 15 to 22 percent come off the wind and hail line of the premium.
Holden Roofing installs Owens Corning Duration FLEX as its Class 4 shingle.
How long does a roof replacement take in Katy?
Usually a single day for a Katy shingle roof. A large footprint, a steep pitch or two old layers can push it to day two, and metal or tile takes longer. Permit and HOA approvals are finished before the crew shows up.
Can an older Katy roof be repaired instead of replaced?
Often, yes. If the damage is limited to one area and the roof still has useful years, Holden Roofing quotes a repair on its own. Older roofs in Old Katy or Williamsburg sometimes get repaired several times before replacement makes sense.
Why would a Katy homeowner use a roofer based in Rosenberg?
Because the headquarters is close and the company has been here since 1961. Holden Roofing’s First Street office is about 30 minutes from Katy City Hall, and the crews that work Fort Bend County every day cover Katy too.
